Bug Description

Binary package hint: filezilla

Trying to install Filezilla from the Add/Remove programs package manager fails as it reports the software will not work with my hardware (i386). Installing however through apt-get works.

Same problem on AMD64 on Jaunty (updated as of today, 20090305). I can provide more information on demand.

Ok, but it rather looks like an app-install-data-ubuntu bug, not a filezilla bug.

The filezilla.desktop file in that package has:

X-AppInstall-Package=filezilla-locales

Don't know why it's filezilla-locales and not filezilla, but filezilla-locales doesn't exist anymore anyway.

I just checked, there was a old workaround added to the extractor of the desktop files that added filezilla-locales to ensure the localized version gets installed. The diff for app-install-data-ubuntu is:

Michael Vogt : Is it clean to fix this in app-install-data-ubuntu directly? If app-install-data-ubuntu is generated automagically, the bug will re-appear, no?

Easy to fix, just reinstall synaptic from inside synaptic. Close, start again, reload and presto

Same problem here, and I found this thread in the forum with the same problem.

"sudo apt-get install filezilla" fixed the problem (but it is still interesting to fix).

I confirm the bug on Jaunty.

It doesn't work from Add/Remove Program (not suitable for i386 platform, and so on...). It works via the package manager synaptic ( I used the GUI, not raw apt-get command).

This bug is confirmed.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug. This issue has been fixed in newer versions of Ubuntu, and Jaunty is EOL. Thus, I am closing this bugtask.
