Backspace causes applet to lose focus when activated with hotkey

Bug Description

Let's say I use the hotkey to activate the deskbar applet, and I type a search string but decide that wasn't what I wanted to search for. I hit backspace rapidly. If I hit backspace when there is nothing in the text entry widget, I would expect, like other text entry widgets, that it would simply do nothing. However, what instead happens is the applet loses focus back to the window that had focus before the hotkey was activated.

This bug happens even if deskbar was selected by clicking on it (i.e. not using the hotkey)

This is annoying, since if I backspace too much, I have to click again on deskbar to type in it.

Just noticed that the bug is only triggered if one of the entries in the drop-down results box is selected when backspacing.

For example, type a query, down-arrow a few times, then backspace. When the text-box becomes empty and you continue backspacing, deskbar loses focus.

i can confirm this behaviour. but it only happens when one of the entries in the combobox is selected, otherwise it works fine.

or better... when the combobox dropped down... it isn't required to select one of the entries

Confirmed. If you hit backspace without typing anything, Deskbar does not lose focus. If you type something, then think better of it and backspace to erase it, Deskbar loses focus, meaning you have to re-click it to enter text again.

The upstream bug claims that this bug is fixed and I can not reproduce it anymore in edgy, so can this bug be closed or do we need a fix for dapper?
