Bug Description

Boot up Breezy. Get a font that has kerning. I used a snapshot of DejaVu (http://dejavu.sourceforge.net/snapshots/dejavu-ttf-20060308-626.tar.gz) because it makes the problem obvious. The font looks fine in Breezy. Now install the latest version of libpango1.0-0 from Dapper (1.11.99-0ubuntu2). The kerning is really ugly. It's still ugly with all the latest packages from Dapper.

Screenshot with Pango 1.11.99-0ubuntu2 from Dapper. Not so good. Note how the same pairs of letters look different in different contexts, and some of them are almost unreadably ugly.
