Bug Description

Binary package hint: kpackagekit

When KPackageKit does an automatic update of the APT indices and finds that there is an update, it displays a tray icon and a KDE notification. The KDE notification disappears as it should after a few seconds. However, the icon disappears too, so the average user would probably not realize that there were any updates at all. The icon should stay in the system tray until the user dismisses it or applies the updates, like the old update notifier did.

The notification popup is actually supposed to stay there until dismissed, but due to a bug in the new Plasma systray notifications the persistence setting is not respected.

I have the same problem with kubuntu jaunty. Also i have notice that if you click to update software in this panel, nothing happens

This bug is now invalid for Jaunty, because the updating framework has been switched back to the old system.

It still would be beneficial to track the status of this bug upstream to keep any eye on whether or not we can re-enable the new system in the future, imo.

Ok, so it actually was a problem with the notifications. Regardless, a fix has been committed upstream for KDE 4.3.

I experience these problems on Karmic, no matter if KDE or Ayatana notifications are used.

I, too, have this same problem in 9.10 Karmic 64-bit. Workstation is a fresh install, and notification is turned on, but I never get a warning icon when updates are available.
