Bug Description

Installed a fresh kubuntu breezy and did a dist-upgrade to kde 3.5.1 with breezy repo's.

When i use kubuntu for a day, i have to kill gam_server each 2 hours or so because otherwise the system gets very slow: gam_server likes to eat about 850 MB RAM and 200 MB swap.

There was one situation where the RAM usage of gam_server was increasing with 0.5 MB/s.(!)
For some reason sometimes i take hours before the leak is active after a reboot though.

gamin 0.1.5-0ubuntu1
Let me know if you need me to supply more information.

815 MB RAM and 550 swap at the moment :(

Basicly when the blue part of RAM in KSysGuard hits the above green line at 829320, their's a big transfer to the swap. Normally this happens each 15(?) minutes without a limit.

The cpu is normally at 13%@ my athlon64 3200+ for the gam_server process, and it hits the top everytime when the it needs to swap from ram to swap.

I just upgraded to KDE 3.5.2, and I noticed my computer was getting less responsive. I ran top and I saw this...

7108 bbeck 15 0 1017m 305m 380 S 0.0 60.7 43:57.47 gam_server

After seeing this, I killed the gam_server, and my machine began running as usual. I never had this problem before upgrading to the latest KDE.

Thanks.

I installed gamin and libgamin0 from dapper (0.1.7-2ubuntu1) and it now works smoothly. A backport from dapper whould be nice, I guess

gam_server leaks memory on my machine too. Hangs the whole system unless killed. Can be killed as normal user. Using Breezy, Gnome and gamin 0.1.5-0ubuntu1.

I since upgraded to Dapper but as long as I used Breezy I had the
problem. Apparently fixes from Dapper were not backported so the bug
is probably still there.

Sorry guys, the spam load i got during the holidays did me remove some legimit mail too...

All looks fine here for gamin.
The leak was not an issue anymore when i upgraded to dapper.

I remember the cpu was still bumpy on gamin though in the beginning of my dapper time, but i think have not seen that problem for a long time now.
