Bug Description

Hello,

i've been trying to install ubuntu 8.04, 8.10 and 9.04 Alpha 5 on my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Xa2528 laptop, but no luck . It always hangs i tried the cd's on my desktop pc with no problems. Booting as live-cd is also not possible. The only live-cd that boot and see my dvd-drive is knoppix 6. It has to something with the dvd-drive if found some info about it here http://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=18748&action=view any help would be nice

Upstream bug is http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11659 and it should be fixed in 9.10. However bug #489490 is reported against 9.10 and it could be a duplicate I am not sure.

Network boot is possible according to bug #356303. Does this laptop support usb boot?

Hi marksken,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 347304

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

This one remains an issue with Ubuntu 10.10rc as well as just about any other live-cd... Cannot gather the required information, because all I can get is the busybox. What can I do to help?

Dreamlinux 3.5 live-cd seems to be functioning properly... It's Debian based and uses 2.6.28.5-1 kernel. What does it do differently (besides from booting up)?
