Dependency on tetex-base is not specific enough (should depend on >=3.0)

Bug Description

The latex package tikz, which is part of the current pgf package, requires the latex package xkeyval. tetex-base 3.0 (dapper) contains xkeyval but tetex-base 2.0.2c8 (breezy) does not. However, pgf only depends on tetex-base in general, thereby allowing an installation of pgf with an older version of tetex-base.

Thank you for reporting this bug.

I must apologize for not being able to reply to this bug report earlier. But as I read the report this is only a problem in Breezy, since the package in Dapper have the right dependency. Is this correct ?

This is only partially correct: The dapper (and the edgy) package *still* depends on tetex-base in general and not on tetex-base(>=3.0). This is normally not a problem since the tetex-base package in dapper/edgy has the right version. However, it is in principle possible to install the dapper/edgy pgf package together with an older tetex-base version and thereby rendering tikz (part of pgf) unusable.
Note that this bug has been fixed in the latest debian package.

Right you are. I have e-mailed the package maintainer to ask him if he will include the version numbers the next time he packages pgf.
