Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic

Description: Ubuntu jaunty (development branch)
Release: 9.04

Cpu scaling doesn't work.
Works fine in windows xp - so it's not BIOS related.

I think it's something with the kernel.

$ dmesg |grep cpufreq
[ 3.634046] cpufreq: No nForce2 chipset.

Can you execute the following command 'apport-collect -p linux 360192' in a terminal? This will automatically gather system information and attach it here to your bug report. Thanks in advance.

I think it's all because speedstep compiled into the kernel and not as modules.

It is very likely that frequency scaling is of no benefit on this CPU and therefore does not trigger the modules to enable. There is much discussion on this subject over on bug #177646, including how it can be that not lowering the frequency should be at most neutral and may even save power from lowering it.
