Bug Description

My microphone doesn't work at all on Acer 2930 using Ubuntu 8.10 and Live CD of 9.04 RC1. I start applications like Audacity and Gnome-Sound Recorder but there is no visual of microphone audio bar moving and no sound being recorded.

Also, if I plug-in my headphones the sound still goes through the normal laptop speakers. Expected results are to have sound only through headphones when it is plugged-in.

Is this bug reproducible with the latest Lucid packages ?
Tanks in advance.

Yes, it sure still is. Internal microphone still doesn't work at all. Amazingly enough on latest stable Fedora (testing with LiveCD) it works great.

After I made some modifications following the last communications at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=984425 it works! :)

Would be nice if it worked without any added config changes though.

To set this bug to confirmed you have first to attach these files:
/var/log/syslog
/var/log/dmesg
/var/log/kern.log
So it can be triaged.
Thanks.

Hello Fabio, if you can tell me how exactly to reproduce the error in a way these log files will show something meaningful it would be great. If someone wants to talk to me and schedule a time to get more information that is also fine.

But, from the reports of other people here and on the forum, this bug is confirmed and a solution posted already on the forum. It is up to the Ubuntu devs to correct this, there should already be enough information on how to do so.

Danilo,

Fabio merely asked you to include a couple of attachments that are specific to your environment and can give some much needed background information. If you truly want to help, Please provide the files that were asked of you. The reason it was changed from Confirmed to invalid was because none of the standard required info was provided earlier. Once you add them, you can reconfirm them. Please see this link for the best practices that really help to escalate the triaging process.

Thanks for your time,

Chris

Hello Chris,

I do understand the concern. As for the best practices I think the history of this bug confirms:
 - there a patch that claims to fix the bug (see the forum linked from the description of this bug)
 - I can you reproduce the bug myself (and so have other people)
 - Fedora latest stable release has no issue with the problem reported

So, it seems three criteria are met.

I'm not against attaching my log files but since I have fixed the issue manually with the instructions of the forum, I'm not sure the issue would appear in the log anymore.

My problem is solved and I hope the Ubuntu community makes an effort to push a fix into the distribution for others. A manual solution has been found for a problem several users have reported and confirmed.

All the best,
Danilo

Hello Danilo
without log file, triagers can't assign the bug and the developer can't fix this bug too.
So if you want to contribute, i ask you if is possible to make an installation in a little partition (4GB are OK) so give us the necessary files to go on ?
Without these files i have to mark this bug as invalid, because there's no way to go on, the solution proposed to use oss driver is just a workaround, not a solution.
If you, like us, want a solution, Ubuntu or Linux dev. have to analize the requested file, instead there's no way to fix this bug.
Thanks.
:)Fabio
