Bug Description

Binary package hint: brasero

The BD-RE disc will not burn content to a disc that has already been burned. I burned to this disc using Brasero a few weeks ago and I then wanted to re-burn different content to the disc.

The system is Ubuntu 9.04 last updated on Apr 20, 2009. Brasero is version 2.26.0-0ubuntu3

To reproduce:

1) Open Brasero
2) Choose Data Project
3) Drag data folder to the window
4) Say "Add File" when asked if I want to "use the third version of ISO9660 standard"
5) Rename the Disc
6) Click "Burn..."
7) Choose the "Blank Rewriteable Blu-ray disc: 22.6 GB of free space" option
8) Check the "Increase compatibility with Windows systems" check box
9) Click "Burn"
10) Window shows infinite progress bar with the subtitle "Getting size"
11) Dialog does not moved beyond the "Getting size" step even after 5 minutes

In addition I performed the following steps, then repeated the above

1) Open Brasero
2) Choose the "Erase..." option from the "Tools" menu
3) Select the BD-RE disc from the combo box
4) Click "Blank" button
5) The operation completed successfully

Thanks for your report, could you run brasero from the command line as: brasero -g --brasero-media-debug &> brasero-debug.txt perform the operation to reproduce the bug and attach the resulting file to the report?. Thanks in advance

It appears that erasing the disc might not have happened correctly. In my dmesg output, I see the following whenever I insert the disc.

> [680380.973852] UDF-fs INFO UDF: Mounting volume 'BACKUP_032309', timestamp 2009/03/23 14:16 (1f10)

It turns out that even after erasing the disc, the disc is mounted by the root user each time the disc is inserted. I can't access it as a normal user because the user and group of each file on the disc is '4294967295' and folders do not have execute permissions.

The drive was reported as not even being recognized by me in Bug #104874 and I would like to close that bug, but I feel like I can't close it until the disc is readable, writable, erasable, and re-writable.

I tried using k3b to erase and burn the disc, but it wouldn't let me erase the BD-RE disc.

I was able to erase and burn the using Nero for Linux.

Next Monday, when I have to burn this disc again, I am going to try erasing the disc using Nero and burn it using Brasero.

Anyone still affected by this bug, can you install udev package from the ppa below and report whether a reblanked BD-RE disc could now be detected (a prompt should appear "empty bd-re disc inserted" just like with any other optical media) and Brasero now lets you burn data to the disc.

The code in this ppa is the same as in latest SRU update to udev (version 151-12.2) except for that it adds support for BD-RE media.
