What version do you use? The breezy version (2.4.1-6ubuntu1) and the dapper version (2.4.1-6ubuntu2) install a desktop file to /usr/share/applications.

This bug was filed as part of a science packages .desktop file review:

This was based on the following wiki page, where viewmol is listed:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Packages/NoDesktopFile

It looks like it does indeed install a .desktop file, but viewmol isn't shown in the Applications menu in GNOME, at least. This is possibly because it doesn't have a 'Categories' field.

My updated .desktop file corrects this, but leaves out the MIME types in the current file.
