Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 9.04
Release: 9.04

(This is Kubuntu Jaunty Beta, with all updates applied up to 23rd April)

apt-cache policy firefox
firefox:
  Installed: 3.0.9+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1
  Candidate: 3.0.9+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1
  Version table:
 *** 3.0.9+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1 0

        500 http://security.ubuntu.com jaunty-security/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     3.0.8+nobinonly-0ubuntu3 0

I am running Kubuntu Jaunty 64 bit. I have not seem this happen on 32 bit.

When I close Firefox after doing some browsing, although the main window closes the process does not exit. I am forced to use 'killall firefox' from the CLI to mak it exit.

This is repeatable 99% of the time.

does this issue also occur after release?

Yes. I've applied all the updates today (24th April) and the problem still occurs.

I've tried running firefox with all plugins and extensions disabled. Problem still occurs.

I've tried deleting my profile from ~/.mozilla. Problem still occurs.

I've tried running 'firefox --debug' but there are no debugging symbols (and I can't find any to download). But it looks as though several threads are started up and one or two don't ever exit.

For the debugging symbols install firefox-3.5-dbg to get the debug
symbols. Maybe that could shead some light on how to reproduce the
problem cuz i am not able to reproduce this bug.

after a little further digging it seems like firefox 3.5 will be
install along with those debug symbols. can you see if your issue
still persists and if so can you please post the debug output.

OK I've installed firefox 3.5 and the debuging symbols. I'm still getting output telling me there are no debugging symbols though! I can reproduce the issue with firefox 3.5 as well. There probably isn't much of use in the output below, but I note the word RENDER appears near the end.. I wonder if this is might be an nvidia driver issue? I'm running the latest proprietary nvidia drivers.

I should add I'm also running the gtk-qt-engine and using the 'Oxygen' widget style, just in case that has an effect.

im running oxygen widget style as well. can you try the previous
driver version and see if you run into the same issue then in that
case if it does the trick i will change the package that this bug
should be filed against.

It could be the flash plugin. Delete ~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so if you have it.

I was having the same problem, but not after I removed the libflashplayer.so I had installed manually in Gutsy. I still have flash, though, since Ubuntu now packages the flashplayer for 64-bit.

Hi!
I had the same problem when using gtk-qt-engine and the 'Oxygen' widget style.
It seems my problem disappeared when using the Qt-Curve style instead...

Maybe that works for you too.

By the way... I'm running Kubuntu 9.04 x64 as well
