Bug Description
apt-get dist-upgrade: March 27th 2006, from breezy to dapper.
Step 1: gdm displays the logon screen
Step 2: Ctrl+Alt+F1 to switch to tty1
Step 3: kill -9 pid_of_X or killall gdm
Step 4: Alt+F7 to switch to tty7
Expected result: I should see a blinking cursor at the top left corner
Actual result: The machines freezes.
Not sure of the incriminated package(s) (X or Kernel ?)
X driver: ati (MRadeon M300)

Hello,
Thanks for reporting this. Is your computer connected to a network so that you can reach it from another machine? This would be helpful in trying to find out whether it is X or the kernel that crashes. If you could, please try to ping it or ssh to it from another machine.
Also, could you attach the /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log files?
(files can be attached to bug reports in Malone via the 'Add Attachment' link in the bug portlet)
