Bug Description

I'm running DualHead-setup on Dapper and xorg/gnome. Updated 28th March 06.

I'm using the fglrx module.

When Power managment is set to put monitors to sleep, the monitors get black, and there is no standby. I can't get them out of this black screen and I need to press the powerbutton for 5 seconds to reboot the computer.

For now I've disabled the "Put display to sleep when computer is inactive for:" in Power Managment Preferences.

It seems like the whole computer freezes. I can't ping the Computer from the network. Nothing shows up in the log files.

I can confirm this problem but only when running compiz. With compiz disabled the system does not lock up.

See attachment for log message, fglrx seems to be crashing. (message repeats every 12 seconds)

Hi Rolf, the issue you are seeing seems like it might be related to or even a duplicate of bug 211610. Care to take a look.

oyvindgj, since you are the original bug reporter, care to confirm this is still an issue in the latest Hardy Heron 8.04 release? The final version of Hardy should be released this week. Thanks.

Hi,

Sorry, I can't confirm this bug, due to a new laptop with nvidia gfx. I don't think I was running compiz back then.

And no problems with two monitors and compiz on Hardy with Nvidia.

I have the same symptoms as the original reporter, but on different hardware..

When running compiz and the display is put to sleep the system completely locks up and I have to reboot with Ctrl+Alt+SysRq+B, this also happens when I put my laptop on standby. If I disable compiz and use metacity everything is fine...
It's a HP 530 with Intel 945GM chipset with integrated graphics and I'm using the integrated LCD and no external monitor.
I'm using the latest release of Hardy with the new X so I think it's using the 'intel' driver...

Maybe I have to file this as a new bug, but I wasn't sure...

Hi Chris,

Care to maybe open a new report. Mainly so that report is specifically targeted towards your hardware and issues. It will be more helpful to the teams debugging the issue not have to sift through unrelated comments etc. In your new report please be sure to include the following information as outlined here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies .

oyvindbj, thanks for the feedback. I'm going to go ahead and close this report since you were the original bug reporter. Thanks.
