Bug Description

Binary package hint: gvfs

For consistency's sake we should call this an SFTP connection rather than an SSH connection. It's placed right alongside FTP, and when you open one with nautilus you write sftp:// rather than ssh://

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: amd64
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia
Package: gvfs 1.2.2-0ubuntu1
ProcEnviron:
 PATH=(custom, user)
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: gvfs
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic x86_64

This looks like a relatively easy fix, but it unfortunately affects ~100+ translated versions... of an identical string.

The one exception is the ka (Georgian) translation, which adds some extra text in parentheses:

./po/ka.po:msgstr "SSH (უხიფათო შელი)"

Does anyone know what that extra text means? If so, does this extra text really need to be there if we replace the string with "SFTP"? If not, the easiest solution is to change it from a translatable string to a string constant.

Note, in the GNOME bug tracker referenced, it's marked as a duplicate of:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=168209

The discussion points out that a menu item in Evolution already reads "Secure FTP (SSH)", which covers most of the usability problems of choosing "SFTP" over "SSH", or vice versa. It also makes that particular selection more consistent with the other options in that dialog, such as:

 * WebDAV (HTTP)
 * Secure WebDAV (HTTPS)

I have a bzr branch that makes this change at: lp:~mpontillo/nautilus/ubuntu

Ah, missed Sebastien's comment. Ignore my bzr branch then. I was mostly using it as a "practice" branch anyway, to try the bzr workflow on an easy bug. I agree it should be fixed upstream.
