Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

In openoffice.org 3.1 in Ubuntu Karmic, there is no openoffice.org-kde package. What are KDE users supposed to do to integrate it our systems?

summary: - No openoffice.org-kde for 3.1?
+ [regression] No openoffice.org-kde for 3.1?

Someone needs to fix the KDE 4 integration patches in Go-OO (ooo-build). KDE 3 is obsolete and is being removed from Debian and Ubuntu. We may end up having to re-enable KDE 3 integration in Karmic for OOo but prefer not to due to amount of packages it will pull onto the CD.

Marking milestone to make sure we decide what to do about this before Karmic Beta.

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

Will the KDE4 integration include the ability to properly open files using kio (especially smb://)? This has been something that has been painfully missing from the KDE packages of OpenOffice.org since as far back as I can remember.

Installing the package openoffice.org-style-crystal brings back the icons for OOo. This package has no dependencies, so it should be installed by default for now, until Oxygen icons will be integrated. Without the icons, OOo is unusable.

Of course, KIO integration is essential...

Please build a kde package for openoffice with kde 4 support ;)

Dear Developers/Packages,
Please hasten this work. Very anxious to update to OO.o-3.1 from Openoffice-pkgs PPA.
It would be better if the kde integration is also supplied along with gnome (no step motherly treatment ;-) )
Good luck and thanks for your efforts.

This is already done for OOo 3.1.1 but it has not been released yet. It will be released around Aug 27.

Is there any work around or do we have to stick to the 3.0 pakages for now..

Would be very great if there would be packages for jaunty also.

Debian has OpenOffice KDE4 integration packages in experimental. Could someone import this package so it gets added to Ubuntu before feature freeze? http://packages.debian.org/experimental/openoffice.org-kde

With the new openoffice.org-style-oxygen package, what about closing this bug?

openoffice.org-kde is nice. But why do the kio integration not work. In Jaunty files where downloaded to the local disk, and then save when changes where detected.

As far back as I can remember, KIO integration never worked with OOO. However, with KDE 4.3.x (and possibly 4.2) I can trick the "save changes after close" function of KIO into working with OOO by changing the OOO start script so that instead of quitting, it checks to see every 5 seconds if OOO has quit. When it has quit, the wrapper script quits too, triggering KIO.

I recall that it actually checked if the file was modified while openoffice was running. So saving the file in OOO would start the copying to the "remote" location a couple of seconds later - with OOO still running. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I never experienced this behavior... But then again, I am not using the KDE4 integration right now, because the file open dialog is Broken.

I found several bugs in openoffice.org-kde (karmic 32bit, all updates as of today applied). For instance the open/save dialog always starts at the "/home" directory. Starting in "/home/user" would be much better. Even when I open a file in a certain directory and hit "Save As" it defaults to "/home". In this case, it should default to the directory of the open file. I also found that the extension is not automatically added, even when the corresponding box in the save dialog is checked. Both the "open" and the "save" dialogs have check boxes without any text next to them.

Should I open a new bug(s) for this?

Oh, and I forgot to tell in comment #18 that these problems disappear when openoffice.org-kde is removed and OOo falls back to the non-kde open/save dialogs.

hasi, I have the same problems on Kubuntu Jaunty with OOo 3.1.1 and on Kubuntu Karmic & OOo 3.1.1 alpha.
And in OOo 3.1.1 from ppa in Jaunty I can't open any file via file picker, after selecting the file, the dialog is disappear, but nothing happens.
Removing openoffice.org-kde solves this problem, but all open dialogs changes to non-kde style.

I had created a bug for the open and save dialogs having check boxes without labels: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/426029

I can update the description to include the information about the directory defaulting to /home.
