Using Kubuntu 5.10 (breezy)
KDE version: 3.5.2
Kopete crashes when selecting Settings->Configure

I was trying to open the configuration dialog. The crash is consistent when
trying to open it from the message window, the contacts window or from the
system tray icon.

Choosing 'Settings' from the Menu-Bar and then 'Configure' causes an immediate
crash. I don't get to try to configure anything. :-(

Could this be a packaging bug?

This does not occur on kubuntu dapper, kde 3.5.2, unless you hit configure, devices, where it then crashes (all the time).

I have the same problem. Have a look at these bug reports:

It indeed seems to be a packaging bug. However, I could not find any "old" files in /usr/lib/kde3 or references to pluginconfig anywhere. BTW: "rm /usr/lib/kde3/kopete* /usr/lib/kde3/kcm_kopete*" fixes the crash but of course renders the configure-dialogue (and kopete itself) pretty much useless...

there's no need to delete everything.

mv /usr/lib/kde3/kcm_kopete_avdeviceconfig.so /usr/lib/kde3/kcm_kopete_avdeviceconfig.so.bak
mv /usr/lib/kde3/kcm_kopete_avdeviceconfig.la /usr/lib/kde3/kcm_kopete_avdeviceconfig.la.bak

There is a patch for this upstream, in bug #120117

I cant reproduce this bug currently - so can someone test it with this patch, and see if the problem goes away?

I havent seen anyone be able to reproduce this for ages.

If it isnt, please test with kopete 0.12.2 from dapper backports, and reopen the bug.
