Bug Description

Well when I install the nvidia driver dkms fails with the nvidia propietary driver
Dkms no fails with nouveau driver but with this driver no go compiz
Card: Geforce fx 5500
Kernel: 2.6.30-5
Driver nvidia-173.4.....

I've posted a new version of the -nvidia driver to our xorg-edgers PPA,
would you mind testing it either on Jaunty or Karmic and see if it
resolves this bug?

Bryce are you sure that nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 will go with Geforce fx 5500 that normaly function with 173 nvidia driver

Ah good point. Looks like this bug is misfiled. Nevermind testing the -185

affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (Ubuntu) → nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 (Ubuntu)

I see two possible courses of action:

1. Stick with nvidia's old .16, but apply the patches from 398893.
2. Bump to .20.

Both fix compilation and compatibility with kernel 2.6.31; both work for me. This has been broken for some time, and should be fixed before the release.

The latest release of the driver is now in Karmic and builds against Karmic's kernel.
