Bug Description

1. add weather applet to your panel.
2. open weather applet preferences.
3. set all units to 'Default'
4. select as location North America-->United States-->Maryland-->Baltimore-->Glen Burnie.
5! update weather. the units are in centigrade or the temperature reads as 'Unknown'. locations should have the proper default units associated with them (in the U.S. that is Fahrenheight).

Thanks for your bug report. Which locale do you use? gweather's code makes use of that information to determine which units are used, which makes more sense than location-based units, in my opinion.

Alvin,

Do you still have this problem? I use the same locale as you and trying the location you specified doesn't yield any errors as described.

If the problem has been resloved, please let us know.

Thanks in advance.

yes. when there is no location set, the applet now shows '0F'. but once you specify a location (in this case, Glen Burnie), the units are once again in centigrade (right now it says 24C). repeat the steps as above and it happens every time.

still using Dapper, though. maybe it's fixed in Edgy.

Did anybody have a chance to test this with edgy or feisty already?

If you have more than one weather applet, say one for Washington (D.C.) and one for Moscow (Russia), I think it would be unintuitive to default the Washington temperature to Fahrenheit and the the Moscow temperature to Centigrade. The default settings should be picked up from the locale - as Bill Nottingham says in the Gnome bug: "LC_MEASUREMENT should be fine".
