Bug Description

Hi...

This problem appears with Phatch 0.1.6 running on Ubuntu Jaunty. Weird thing is that when I look at the about box, it says 0.1.5 instead, dunno if that's a known behavior.

I have pyexiv2 installed, here's how I proceed:
1: selection of jpg files in Nautilus;
2: right click;
3: select Phatch action list;
4: selection of an action list;
5: check the right checkboxes, saving meta-tags;
6: actions are executed properly, but any metadata is removed...

For example, this actions list which resize pictures to max 600px:
{'actions': [{'fields': {'Constrain Proportions': u'yes',
                         'Height': u'600 px',
                         'Resample Image': u'antialias',
                         'Resolution': u'<dpi>',
                         'Scale down only': u'yes',
                         'Width': u'600 px',
                         '__enabled__': u'true'},
              'label': 'Scale'},
             {'fields': {'As': u'jpg',
                         'Filename': u'<filename>',
                         'In': u'<folder>/<foldername>/',
                         'JPG Quality': u'85',
                         'JPG Size Maximum': u'100 %',
                         'JPG Size Tolerance': u'5 %',
                         'PNG Optimize': u'yes',
                         'Resolution': u'<dpi>',
                         '__enabled__': u'true'},
              'label': 'Save'}],
 'description': u"D\xe9crivez la liste d'actions ici."}

This is too bad since well... Phatch is really a great software. :)
if you have any clue, thanks for any help!

Hi Fabien,

Thanks for reporting this. Just a question, did you check 'Copy metadata (exif & itpc)' option in the execute form? Currently the default is not to save metadata. I hope it will fix the issue. We are considering to change the option to be enabled by default.

Thanks,
Nadia

Hi Nadia,

Yes, I checked it, sorry I couldn't use the right term as localized versions sometimes make it harder to report bugs.

That would be great to set it by default, but I'm afraid it's not the point in my case.
Is there any way to get a debug feedback with Phatch that I could submit? If so, let me know the steps and I'll gladly provide you with this info.

Thanks for the answer!

This is probably a known bug, which has been fixed already in the development repository. This appeared to be specific to photos of certain cameras. Can you please attach a zip file with the action list and an example image file)? Otherwise we can't fix it.
The about box version number is indeed wrong, but that will be fixed in next version. No need for a separate bug.

Hi Fabien,
Please attach this coming week the zip file as requested above. If not, I'll mark the bug as invalid as I think it is fixed in the next release. We want to release Phatch 0.2 soon, so we need it hope.
Thanks for your understanding,
Stani

stani, sorry for the delay, plus I had problems uploading the original photo: it appears it's too large to be uploaded.

I reduced it with F-Spot then used Phatch.
You'll find the two photos plus the action list in the attached zip files.

Great news for the v2!
Thank you.

We're talking about the 0.1.6 here, so maybe it's solved in the dev version, but still, there seems to be a bug until then.

Sorry, you're in the wrong place. This is the bug tracker of the development version.

Well... Sorry for the mess then.

I still can't see where this is specified. Maybe you should consider making this clearer if you don't want to get too many unrelated bug reports (for your own time, I mean).
In other words, where is the right place to report bugs of the actual version, then?

Thanks!

This bug tracker is used by Phatch for development. One of our criteria for a new release of Phatch is that *all* bugs are fixed in trunk. These bugs are listed here. Opening a bug here, which is fixed already, blocks our release process in a bad way. If you want to file bugs against the version you are using, you should do it at your distribution (linux distro) but not in the upstream bug tracker. It seems that you don't know your way around:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/phatch

If you appreciate Phatch and want to be cooperative, it takes you a much smaller effort to try if your bug is still present on Phatch 0.2 This will save time from the developers and you will feel relieved that your issues is fixed. I wonder why we take all the effort to setup a PPA, when appearantly it is too much effort for you to try it out. In any case don't play with an upstream bug tracker status at your own will. You probably don't realize that you are hindering the development process. If you are unsure, please ask but don't start messing around.

To please you I'll change the status to fix committed, although the fix was already committed long before you submitted the bug. I hope you can please us and try out the PPA. (Yes, I spent my time already trying it out for you, but tests are better done twice.)

In order to make things more clear, I've adapted https://launchpad.net/phatch

No need to please me thanks, sorry for messing with the status.
Hopefully, the mention you added will not waste your or anybody else's time, thanks for doing so.

Not trying a PPA doesn't mean it needs efforts, it can also mean "I need something that works, I can'ttake the risk to mess with my system now". I agree that you might expect people to spend time to help (by filling bugs, for example), but please don't start to be rude.

Long live Phatch anyway.
