Bug Description

Binary package hint: moodbar

In Bug #316262 moodbar removed because it doesn't work with Amarok 2

But alpha version of new exaile 0.3 can support moodbar via plugin

See Bug #316262
User Steve Langasek removed the package.
It is his responsibility and duty to put it back and undo the damage he did to Ubuntu.

Please undo the damage you did to Ubuntu, Exaile and Amarok14 by restoring the moodbar to the Ubuntu Jaunty repository.
As you broke it, please fix it.

No, if you think the package should be readded to Ubuntu you should file a needs-packaging bug as described at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/Specs/NeedsPackagingBugs

Removal of this package was based on misinformation.

=== QUOTE Scott Kitterman wrote on 2009-01-12 in Bug#316262===
Yes. It should definitely be removed. From debian/changelog:

  * debian/control: Add Recommends: amarok, as only amarok can actually use
    moodbar's output for now.
=============

=== The full text from the Debian Changelog ===
2007
moodbar (0.1.2-2) unstable; urgency=low

   * debian/control: Add Recommends: amarok, as only amarok can actually use
     moodbar's output for now.
   * debian/rules: Use /usr/share/dpatch/dpatch.make rather than rolling our
     own logic.

====================================

Please notice the DATE ===3 may 2007=== on the change-log entry.
This date is before the existence or knowledge of the Exaile plugin.
So the package is removed on invalid grounds.

=== Quote from LaunchPad ===
#
Exaile
Exaile is a media player aiming to be similar to KDE's Amarok, but for GTK+.
It includes many Amarok features: fetching of album covers, handling of large libraries, fetching of lyrics, and more.
Registered by Exaile Developers on 2007-07-26
=============================

Exaile did not even exisit at the time of Bryan Donlan's Reccommend
So the comment from Bryan 'for now' (3 may 2007) still stands!

The package still exisits in Debian and is maintained in their packaging. So there were no grounds for removal.

I think this one should go, but we

Just dropping the recommends [for Amarok] was the appropriate action.

I'll have to close this one in Exaile because there's nothing we can do from our end; this is an Ubuntu problem.

While it would be nice if moodbar was re-packaged (the moodbar plugin written by Michael Soluyanov is included in Exaile trunk and fully functional), it will have to go through the proper channel. For one, it needs a maintainer. If the original maintainer of moodbar is not interested, nobody can force him to do it.

On a related note, Debian still has moodbar in their repository. If you really need it and nobody wants to properly package it in Ubuntu, you're likely able to use Debian's package.
