Bug Description

With every Dapper kernel, I've seen brief dmesg output like

hdc: drive_cmd: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
[4294702.815000] hdc: drive_cmd: error=0x04 { AbortedCommand }
[4294702.815000] ide: failed opcode was: 0xec
[4294702.847000] hdd: drive_cmd: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
[4294702.847000] hdd: drive_cmd: error=0x04 { AbortedCommand }
[4294702.847000] ide: failed opcode was: 0xec
[4294703.032000] hdc: drive_cmd: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
[4294703.032000] hdc: drive_cmd: error=0x04 { AbortedCommand }
[4294703.032000] ide: failed opcode was: 0xec
[4294703.063000] hdd: drive_cmd: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
[4294703.063000] hdd: drive_cmd: error=0x04 { AbortedCommand }
[4294703.063000] ide: failed opcode was: 0xec

So this currently applies on 2.6.15-20-k7 kernel.

Both drives function normally, without any problems.

I was just wondering if those messages are normal or not.

The messages seem harmless and it could be just the kernel tries to access them before a part of your system is ready (but this is just speculation on my part). You can try booting with a disk in the drive and see whether the errors go away...

This is not actually a bug. It's reporting that your DVD burner is
returning errors.

Okay, thanks for the responses.

Maybe there's some wrong with the firmware, drive seems to work flawlessy though.
