Bug Description

Using nvidia-glx-legacy with a GeForce 4 MX card on Dapper makes your computer pretty unusable.

0000:02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV18 [GeForce4 MX 440 AGP 8x] (rev a2

In fact, X completely freezes every time I open Synaptic or Evolution. You cannot even switch to a console. You have to ssh from another box or to make an hardware reboot.

As I have problems with non-legacy, I just tried this one and it's even worst !

You probably want to stick to the newer drivers since the old ones are solely for old cards. You may also want to try getting help from the nvnews forrum over at http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=14

If it's "normal" that the legacy driver does not support newest cards, this bug can be closed as "rejected". I've reported it for information.

Given that I'm the only reporter of this bug, that I don't use the legacy driver anymore, that it's pretty old, that I don't experience this bug anymore and that nvidia-glx is closed source, I close this bug. If someone has the problem (which seems pretty unlikely), feel free to reopen this bug.
