Bug Description

Hi,i just wanted to point out that when a first time k/x/ubuntu user installs the distro he knows nothing of the IRC.I for starters had a very difficult time figuring out where to look for help. The ubuntu forums are great but can take alot of time to get the required info.I recently tried sabayon and there was pretty icon on the desktop (Quassel) which said " Get real time free support here ",so a quassel/pidgin shortcut on the K/x/ubuntu desktop would be really helpful for first time users.

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention.

Does this problem persist in Karmic? Kindly test this in karmic and report back,Papercuts are minor issues that exist in Karmic
It is not clear how this falls within the papercut criteria. Could you explain this? Pls read the wiki about what is/is not a papercut.

A paper cut is a minor usability annoyance that an average user would encounter on his/her first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu 9.10.

For further info about papercuts criteria , pls read > https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as "incomplete" ONLY in the papercuts project.

Ok,as the wiki puts it : a paper cut is a trivially fixable usability bug that the average user would encounter on his/her first day of using a brand new installation of Ubuntu Desktop Edition
When a first time Ubuntu user opens his desktop,he obviously knows nothing of the working of synacptic/kpackage kit, installing packages, etc. It is fair to assume that he will not look at the documentation since he has already read the documnetation of his previous OS.So what im suggesting is a small icon on the desktop, pointing to IRC support ( like a quassel/pidgin icon on the desktop) with a quick overview of the IRC and a express nick setup.
Ive attached a thumbnail to better explain my point

What you are suggesting is definitely something that will improve the new users finding irc help.

But assumptions of the average users should not be made from personal experiences.
Lets see what the community decides.

Great idea, but not a paper cut because this isn't an easy usability fix, it's a new feature (adding quick access to IRC support).
