Just some questions to understand the bug earlier. I know when I started my comp today I had a kernel update. Did you update the kernel with update also.

If so when you boot up into grub can you check to see if the old kernel entry still exists and try to start up that way.

The other question I have is do you have third party drivers. IE did you install your drivers from an outside source or did they automatically work with the distro?

From a glance at your xorg log I see a segfault when compiz tries to load. I believe this gets started upon user login... I know desktop resolution settings I have on my dual monitor do not work right until I log in, they just mirror until then.

Hello.
Tried both the new and old kernel and both resulted in this error.

Can't remember that I've installed any third party drivers.

When you get to the login screen switch over to the one of the command line tty.

ALT+F2 should give you one of them. Log into the command line with your user name and type the following command ->
metacity --replace &

This should disable the compiz program.

To re-enable type:
compiz --replace &

Check to see if you can log in successfully doing this....

Sorry forgot to leave one command. When you are done with the tty you can type ALT+ F7 to put it back in gui mode.
If you get no response from this command you can try the ALT+CTRL+F2.

This doesn't just happen with gnome, it does happen with KDE4 as well (Xorg restarts just after logging in).

Tried to reinstall Ubuntu with alpha2 CD but it didn't help (upgraded from 9.04 earlier).

Changing to metacity instead of compiz didn't help, it's still crashing.
Attached .xsession-errors

This bug is marked as duplicate; not by me. I just have a quick bit of input before conversation is moved to the other bug context. I just looked over your error report and found that it could not find the compiz settings in your home directory. Can you create a new user by command line and see if they can log in properly. Also another thing to try is booting into failsafe settings in grub.

Update
I review you log some more. Do you have bluetooth on your machine. There is a critical Gtk error when trying to load the Bluetooth applet. You might try disabling that device to see what happens. Still a bug if this fixes it but it points to the true culprit if so. Thangs for giving logs and being patient with my suggestions.

I use the blueman applet instead of gnome bluetooth :)
when logging in a fresh user it also crashes within a minute.

didnt try with bluetooth disabled, because the mesa bug is already fixed, so i dont get crashes anymore
