Bug Description

On Jaunty 9.04

when running vmbuilder with --hostname ubuntu_test, the scripts continues creating the VM silently, only when booting and starting to use the created VM, problems arise because ubuntu_test is not a valid hostname. vmbuilder should check that the hostname is valid before creating the VM.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hostname#Restrictions_on_valid_host_names for valid hostnames.

Thanks

running

vmbuilder kvm ubuntu --debug --mirror=http://dk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu --hostname ubu_test

gives the attached file.

How exactly does the vm fail?

It "fails in the way that it creates a (virtual) machine that is useless because the hostname is invalid.

Example: creating a vm with 'sudo vmbuilder kvm ubuntu --libvirt=qemu:///system --mirror=http://dk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu --hostname ubu_test'

During boot I see (using virt-viewer):
"hostname: the specified hostname is invalid"

There are also many network utilities/applications that does not work either.
