Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

Fresh install of Jaunty 9.04 on HP laptop model G70-212EM. Needed to plug in external keyboard and mouse to complete installation. After install added the following defoptions to menu.lst as laptop's keyboard and touchpad were not functioning.

i8042.nomux=1 i8042.direct=1 i8042.nopnp=1 i8042.dumbkbd=1

Following reboot laptop's keyboard OK, but when touchpad touched system crash caused with flickering. System only responsive from switching off on power button.

System functional with an external mouse plugged, as long as contact with the touchpad avoided

Sounds more like a kernel issue to me, if the whole system crashes.

affects: xorg (Ubuntu) → linux (Ubuntu)

Unlikely to be kernel as I can still ssh in when x crashes.

This happens when the display crashes

In dmesg:-
[ 905.115593] [drm:gm45_get_vblank_counter] *ERROR* trying to get vblank count for disabled pipe 0

In xorg.0.log:-
(WW) intel(0): drmDropMaster failed: Unknown error 4294967295

Tried a different intel driver:-

lily@lily-laptop:~$ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel
xserver-xorg-video-intel:
  Installed: 2:2.7.1-0ubuntu1~xup~1

This appears to be fixed in the latest kernel update.
