Bug Description

When Ubuntu and Kubuntu are installed side-by-side, their menus should work together nicely. All icons should be visible whether you are in KDE or in GNOME. All icons should also be in the same places. When I have a default Kubuntu-desktop and Ubuntu-desktop, I am missing many icons in my K menu in KDE. Some of these include:
Epiphany (although not in default install)
Beep Media Player (althought not in default install)
Serpentine Audio CD Ripper
Language Support (Which is also in TWO menu folders: settings and system)
Screensaver
System Log
System Monitor
Calculator (gnumeric)
Take screenshot
Gedit

Also, there are two misplaced entries:
Orange (from xfce) should be in accessories.
Gnome Add/Remove Programs should be in Utilities.

I am using the latest Dapper. If I can give any more information I would love to.

I have recently dist-upgraded from Breezy to Dapper and some of the gnome icons are indeed missing in the KDE menus (all of the icons display perfectly though when running Gnome (I have both KDE + Gnome installed))... I can also confirm the above icons:

epiphany
calculator (gnome-calculator.png)
take screenshot
...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? I cannot reproduce this bug with KDE 4.1 on Intrepid. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

This seems to be related to KDE 3 only. On Hardy, for example I installed dvd::rip under Kubuntu KDE3 -> No icon. Then, I logged into my parallel install of KDE 4 (from ppa), and the dvd::rip icon is there. On another Ubuntu-Gnome install, also on Hardy, dvd::rip's icon is visible. Maybe that's because the dvd::rip icon is placed in /usr/share/app-install/icons, while most other icons are located under /usr/share/icons?

After installing KDE4, some basic KDE4 apps were also installed alongside, and also made available under KDE 3. I noticed missing icons of KsCD4 and Juk4 in the KDE3 Start Menu.

Will there be only KDE4 in Intrepid? I don't see this fixed for KDE3. And does this mean there won't be a fix for Hardy?

Hew (hew) wrote :

Yes, KDE4 is the version used in Intrepid. For a fix to be made available for Hardy (or other previous release), a SRU must be issued https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates . In this case. it is a bug that hadn't been touched for 2 years, and is not a high-impact bug, so a SRU won't be issued.

Wouldn't this be better as a report for each application that gets noticed?

then the individual package maintainers can be informed and repair it...

This bug was reported as being fixed with KDE4, so there is nothing to repair.
