This affects me too, using Ubuntu 11.04.
Also I recently performed an "apt-get update" and "apt-get install", which made the progress bar go all the way to the end before freezing, but it still freezes.
Please help. I like the gnome-app-install much better than the other package manager that comes with Ubuntu > 10.04 (or whenever they changed it; not Synaptic - synaptic is great - the other, crappy one).
