Bug Description

USB drives do not register when inserted, and thus are not mounting in updated karmic running on msi wind netbook.
when booted with the drive inserted, the drive is usable until removed (and reinserted)
karmic 9.10a2 (with updates to 2009-07-12)
kernel 2.6.31-2 generic
gnome 2.27.3

There is nothing to report in lsusb except for the hubs and the camera. dmesg does not register the insertion.
not using USB-external drive, SD-card nor USB-stick.

rebooting to Jaunty on SD-card and all things work.
seems like HAL is not working.

Confirmed, but not only drive, but my usb dvd-rom is not working, usb soundcard, usb huawei mobile internet, not even a usb mouse is working. In general nothing with usb is working.

The same karmic koala, msi wind u100.

I have the exact same behavior on my MSI Wind U100. All usb devices are not hotplugged, including mice, webcam, card reader, etc. The machine is almost rendered unusable. I hope this gets attention soon.

By the by, as of Milestone 8, openSUSE 11.2 has the same issue.

Also affected on a MSI Wind 100. No msgs when plugin usb devices. I instaled Karmic from cd two weeks before. Problem apeared on last kernel upgrade. My USB mouse DOES work, but only when i turn on pc with mouse connected.

Closing this bug with Won't fix as this kernel / release is no longer supported.
Please feel free to open a new bug report if you're still experiencing this on a newer release (Bionic 18.04.3 / Disco 19.04)
