Bug Description

After bootup with the restricted-modules package installed , I cannot see after doing a lsmod anything loaded which looks like it supports the lucent modem , neither in the /dev folder.

from doing a manual installation of the lucent modem driver, you compile ltmodem.ko and ltserial.ko kernel modules.

So would expect to find files of a similar name by doing a dpkg -L of the linux-restricted-modules-2.6.12-10-k7 if the restricted-modules package had lucent winmodem support.
eg
dpkg -L linux-restricted-modules-2.6.12-10-k7 | less

I don't find anything remotely looking like a ltmodem driver in the list.

Has the lucent winmodem driver been left out ?

That is the basic problem with other linux systems. Downloading the driver does not work. I was looking into ubuntu in hopes that this problem was resolved.

Same.

As it is easy enough to compile the driver , it would of been nice if
the driver had been included as the package said it was.

Initial bug was reported on 2006-04-18. Now is end of September and I have still the same problem. In restricted modules for i386 kernel version ltmodem driver is compiled, but in k7 and 686 version is not. After all there is no problem with source of ltmodem driver included into Ubuntu kernel if compilation is made by hand. It looks like the only thing to do is append two files to kernel-restricted package for k7 anf 686 version.

We are closing this bug report as it concerns kernel version 2.6.12 from Breezy which is no longer supported. However, please reopen it if it is still an issue with a supported version of Ubuntu and feel free to submit bug reports in the future.
