Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. This looks like a problem with the perl installation or possibly filesystem corruption. Please do a filesystem check and reinstall perl and reopen the bug if you continue to see this error.

dbus was corrupted so reinstalled. also reinstalled perl per your
suggestion. All works fine. Thanks for your ususal prompt feed back.
It is so rare to have an installation problem with Ubuntu that I have
almost forgotten how to trouble shoot. :-)
