After login in gnome desktop, the client starts, it tries to connect but it is not connected to the service. In order to connect there is an extra step required (right-click on the icon in the notification area and select Disconnect and then Connect)

I'm marking this as fixed, as the behavior is that we connect automatically by default when the applet gets the token from the keyring on start-up, or when it is authorized to acess the account. We also either preserve connection state from the last session, or start up disconnected based on preference. Default however is to connect automatically.
