Configure Login Manager crashes X

Bug Description

in the gdm login screen, one of the menu options is "configure login manager"
clicking on it prompts for a password, after which nothing happens
so, i set a root password with "sudo passwd" and entered that when it prompted me. this time, it began to work, but immediately crashed the X-server. future attempts produced the exact same result. this needs to either be fixed, or have the option removed, as IMO it isnt very neccesary, esp considering that it needs a root passwd to work
