JFS no longer built into the default kernel

Bug Description

I installed Alpha 3 of Karmic and noticed that I can no longer boot while my / partition is of type JFS. I get an error about VFS being unable to sync due to an unknown block type and the computer simply sits there flashing lights and looking pathetic.

This appears to be caused by the fact that JFS has been moved from being part of the kernel to being a module, and due to the fact that the module cannot be loaded until /lib is mounted which cannot be achieved until / is mounted as taavikko pointed out here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=7675135&postcount=4), this essentially renders booting from JFS impossible.

This bug was reported against the linux-meta package when it likely should have been reported against the linux package instead. We are automatically transitioning this to the linux kernel package so that the appropriate teams are notified and made aware of this issue.

If this bug really is a bug in the linux-meta package you can move it back to linux-meta and set the Status to Confirmed, or contact us on the #ubuntu-kernel channel on the FreeNode IRC server. Thanks.

The jfs.ko module is built for Karmic. The problem is that it may not be in the initramfs (initrd) where it belongs. Please verify that /lib/modules has the module and also check your default initrd to see if it is there as well. If it is in both places, see if you can get a console trace and attach it to the bug. BTW, the initrd is a gzip compressed cpio archive. Uncompress it and and look in the TOC.

I'm afraid that I can no longer test this. I've since transitioned all of my computers' boot partitions from JFS to EXT4 so that I could have working systems.
