Bug Description

Hi,

I am currently running ubuntu dapper beta in my laptop. Everything was fine till I thought of previewing kubuntu. So I did a 'sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop'. Everything installed fine and I logged out and went into KDE to check it out. Then I logged in Gnome and I started to notice some difference. The ubuntu brown theme has gone blue now. If I select text, or any menu option or anything else, it is in kubuntu blue, except the window frame, which is in brown. Even if I select a icon it is selected with blue color. Then I opened OpenOffice, and now I see that more problems are popping up. See the open office screen for yourself ..

In essence, all the menu icons are gone. If I go to the menu themselves, I just get a blank drop down list. However, the icons, menu items just under the mouse pointer are visible.

Changed in gtk2-engines-gtk-qt:

Well, all the problems mentioned in bug 36256 is still present. It was mentioned that it will be solved on 20th, but it is still not solved. Additionally, when I bot the system or shut down, the boot screen(or shut down screen) is the kubuntu one and not the ubuntu one. So I think the boot splash is also overwritten !

you're right, bug 36256 is still in progress and has not been fixed yet.

the bootsplash "bug" is not a real bug, when you add kubuntu to your ubuntu install the kubuntu splash appears, that's normal and makes sense in my opinion.

BTW, to change the bootsplash between Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu, you can use the following command in a terminal:

sudo update-alternatives --config usplash-artwork.so

which will prompt you to choose your default bootsplash.

Don't forget to "sudo dpkg-reconfigure linux-image-$(uname -r)" after
fiddling with update-alternatives.
