menu item doesn't show up in menu

Thanks for your bug report? Do you have dia installed or dia-gnome? Are you talking about a dia.menu or a dia.desktop? For the 'menu' to show up you need the 'menu' package installed. 'dia-gnome' ships a .desktop file which shows up in the normal menu nicely.

I also do not have dia showing up in my menus (ie. the Xfce Applications menu).
I'm running an up-to-date Xubuntu Dapper, with dia 0.94.0-17.1ubuntu2 installed. Since this is Xubuntu, I want to avoid installing dia-gnome.

Alright, I added a .desktop file for dia to /usr/share/applications, and dia shows right up in the menus. So, just add the .desktop file to the package. Or even better, add the .desktop file and everything related (pixmaps etc.) to the dia-common package. Thanks :-)

I can confirm this bug for Xubuntu Edgy 6.10

Yep, it's still there on Edgy. I don't know what's so hard about fixing this bug, I mean this is low hanging fruit after all and should take about ten minutes to fix.
FWIW, I'm attaching the dia.desktop file I made. Just drop it in /usr/share/applications until this bug gets fixed.

please file a bug if you can to debian BTS, asking to move dia.desktop from dia-gome to the dia-common package so both dia and dia=gnome have it installed. The change will have to be done in debian anyway as it involves adding Replaces: entries in the control file
so its better to have those sorted out in debian. If the maintainer turns out to be unresponsive it will be fixed in ubuntu.

Couldn't I just click on "Also affects: Distribution..." above and then select Debian? That way, I believe Malone would keep track of the bug in the Debian BTS, wouldn't it? I'm asking because I don't really know anything about the finer points of Launchpad.

you'd have to have adebian buf filed first and then you could say also affectas debian I guess.

the only chance to fix this before feisty freeze is by reporting it to debian.

I've attached updated version of dia.desktop.

It contains several fixes:
- It doesn't specify .png in icon name (.desktop files shouldn't according to specification),
- it contains GenericName fields,
- it contains polish translation.
