Bug Description
Binary package hint: udev
Whenever installing or reconfiguring a kernel image on Karmic, udev constantly pulls the following modules:
i915 190760 0
drm 158400 1 i915
i2c_algo_bit 5792 1 i915
video 19760 1 i915
output 2780 1 video
intel_agp 26716 0
agpgart 35788 2 drm,intel_agp
Yet, the hardware on which the kernel runs is an AMD Geode LX, which has its own proprietary built-in video hardware, to which DRM has not been ported yet, which can only be accessed via vesafb or lxfb or as a generic VGA adapter.
Meanwhile, the laptop from which I'm connecting to the Geode-based host indeed features an all-Intel chipset including an i945 video card that is covered by the i915.
Could it thus be that udev (or some other update-initramfs helper - apologies if I filed this bug against the wrong package) incorrectly tries to guess the kernel video module to load based on the video hardware present on the host identified by the DISPLAY environment variable?
