Bug Description

I am using totem with xine-backend in dapper with the proprietary nvidia drivers.
When watching a movie in fullscreen controls appear when moving the mouse. These controls do not disappear completely if the movie has "black bars" on top and bottom due to different aspect ratios of movie and display (e.g. 16:9 movie and 5:4 display).

I had this bug with totem-xine in breezy, too.

Thanks for your bug report. This was mentioned in http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=302419 as well - it's a known upstream problem.

I'm also having the same problem in Ubuntu Feisty. I'm using Nvidia graphicscard and metacafe. The problem disappears if the desktop effects are activated as mentioned before.

I have attached a screen capture from full screen mode.

This has not been fixed. Running Feisty up-to-date with totem-xine the
fullscreen controls still do not autohide. They work fine with
totem-gstreamer and with the desktop effects installed.

I too can confirm that this issue is not fixed. Running fully up to date system using nvidia legacy drivers, top and bottom bar which should be black have images of the video controls (which are frozen at the time the controls were supposed to dissappear).

This has been an issue for quite a while now - however it used to be perfect. Strange...

I can confirm too, running Feisty, xine backend and proprietary NVIDIA drivers.

Bizarrely this wasn't an issue for me under Edgy.

I don't know if it's connected but I have a problem where if I operate the controls in fullscreen mode the mouse pointer doesn't disappear again. Can someone advise whether to file this as a separate bug?

Also confirming, using feisty with NVIDIA drivers.

If this can't be fixed, I suggest setting the default video application to one of the functional ones instead of Totem.

I am poking this bug.

This is still an issue with totem-xine 2.18.1-0ubuntu3

The problem code, according to totem devels, is in Xine itself:

The xine-lib backend was removed from Totem master. Please test whether the
problem(s) you were encountering still occur with the GStreamer backend (in
which case you should file a new bug).

If you are unwilling or unable to use the GStreamer backend, feel free to use
alternative xine-lib based players, such as gxine.

Totem 2.26.x will still have the xine-lib backend available.
