Bug Description

The python-zodb package cannot be installed at present on Ubuntu Karmic, as it declares a dependency on python2.3.

Original description below:

Binary package hint: sagemath

Hi.

It seems that sagemath is uninstallable in karmic:

root@joao-laptop:~# LANG=C apt-get install sagemath
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
sagemath: Depends: python-twisted but it is not going to be installed
Depends: python-twisted-web2 but it is not going to be installed
            Depends: python-zodb (>= 1:3.6.0-3)
E: Broken packages
root@joao-laptop:~#

It would be nice if the dependencies were corrected, as this is a very important program for academic work.

Thanks, Rogério Brito.

Can you try directly installing python-twisted, python-twisted-web2, and python-zodb?

Geee... There's something fishy here.

I have three karmic systems here in different notebooks that are
upgraded constantly (every single day; one ia32, one amd64 and another
powerpc). I can't install sagemath on, at least, the first two.

And this is this way for some time now. It would be a pity to have
karmic be released without sage working, especially as karmic is a
sort of preparation for the next LTS release. (Actually, I do all my
heavy work on Debian, but on notebooks, I have chosen to go with
Ubuntu).

Installing python-twisted and python-twisted-web2 doesn't seem to be a
problem. OTOH, python-zodb gives a problem with python-zconfig and
python-zdaemon not being available.

Here is another excerpt of what I already tried (BTW, this has been
this way for quite some time now---two or three monts, as karmic
started to diverge from jaunty):

root@cruz:~# apt-get install python-zodb
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done

Trying to install python-zconfig or python-zdaemon does not succed.
And the weird dependency of the legacy python2.3 is really strange.
:-/

Actually, this dependency seems to be bogus, as it already depends on
python2.6. You can see the status of the packages as of today at:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/python-zodb

Notice that there are some really weird things going on. :/

Regards, Rogério Brito.

OK, it looks like the real problem here is that python-zodb is not installable on karmic. I can confirm that (my test machine seems to have not upgraded that package from jaunty, probably because it isn't installable).

Thank you very much. The dependencies seem to be satisfied in karmic
(I'm using karmic on a PowerPC).
