Bug Description

I don't exactly know the means to reproduce this grave bug, but kontact truncates my address books.

I have my adress book resource in a separate folder and I recently found that nearly half of the 7 backups where truncated to zero size !

Fortunatly I add some backups, but this is definitly a show-stopper to me.

level: dapper as of 2006-04-30

This was marked resolved upstream but appears to still be happening to some folks. Is there any way you can verify that this is still an issue? Thank you.

Thank you for reporting this bug.

There was a bug that was fixed in Dapper a long time ago, and it was fixed in upstream aswell. It only happens to people who are not up-to-date or use unofficial KDE < 3.5.2 packages on Breezy.

However, this one seems different since it happens on recent Dapper. In the previous bug, you could reproduce by doing the following :
1) Open kontact
2) Open a new email and fill in the recipient field with anything. Do not close the email
3) Go to the kaddressbook section of Kontact
4) Close Kontact

This is how you would lose all your contacts with the previous bug. Can you still reproduce it this way? If you can't, can you provide some informations on how to reproduce it?

This bug is still present. I don't know yet how to reproduce. I'll try what you suggest in the preceeding comment.

I just started my PC 10 mns ago. Kontact starts as part of my automatic kde session restore proccessing. And I found my kde contact resources dir like this :

So you can see I just lost my main address book pc_perso.vcf at 2006-05-12 04:55. This time correspond at the automatic shutdown of KDE by kshutdown last night.

On the other way you can also see a temporary address book file left there pc_perso.vcfsruDSb.new five days before.

Maybe the bug is due to kontact beeing shutdowned at the wrong moment when an address book is rotated...

I tried the old scenario suggested to trigger the old bug, but with no success. So the way to reproduce stays mysterious. It has something to do with kontact shutdown and maybe adress book rotation.

I also have to try shutting down kontact while it receives mails (pop3).
