Bug Description

After choosing Kurdish (kurdî) from the boot menu of the Dapper Beta 2 Desktop CD and booting up, opening the language selector leads to the automatic install of obscure language packs like bn (Bengali?) and zh (Chinese).

This has been reproducible on several computers. On one Ubuntu even claimed that the locale (ku) was not existent, immediately after booting up and without any intervention from my side.

I also realized that a lot of unneccessary locales are created like fr variants, en variants and de variants.

The problem is still there on the Flight 7 Live CD. It still wants to install the firefox-langpacks bn-in, zh-tw, zh-cn, fr-fr and de-de after booting up in Kurdish.

Subscribed Colin for input on this. Maybe we can make the language-selector check if it runs under casper (IIRC there was a environemnt for this) and skip the missing languages-pack test then?

Thanks,
 Michael

I cannot verify this at the moment. But I think, it was the same locales after installing from the Live-CD and after installing with the text-installer.

For instance the above mentioned "locale ku is not existing" (or something similar) may have come after an install with the text installer. But that was somewhat different.

The bug still exists on the Final Dapper Live-CD. About ten firefox-locales are being installes when using the language-selector.

I reassign this to casper because casper needs to be modified to change the language-selector desktop file. It needs to be run with "-n" on the livecd to skip the verification of the installed language-packs.
