Bug Description

Binary package hint: tomboy

That means that when the colour of the panel containing the Tomboy icon is other than the default GNOME grey (e.g. another solid or transparent colour), the Tomboy icon background does not match that of the panel's.

This is just a smal issue but it makes the panel visually unpleasant when not using the default colour and does not say much about GNOME's polish. Having a transparent icon background would make it independent of the panel's colour.

In the last few weeks there have updates to make the backgrounds of GNOME applets transparent, so I think it makes sense that Tomboy gets this feature, which IMHO would not be very difficult to implement.

Regarding my previous comment about the latest updates to make the background of icons transparent, and after re-reading

https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/control-center/+bug/42894

should this bug be reported to control-center?

The panel applet background is already transparent... it's only for the notification area icon if I'm not mistaken. Is this correct?
It won't be too easy to implement this then but I'll take a closer look later

ok it is definitely fixed... after restarting the panel (i.e. the version with the required patch) it works fine *sigh*

The tomboy applet is still using another background. Even with a up to date hardy this problem is still relevant...

The background of Liferea's icon is not transparent (when the panel is set to transparent under the tropical theme and others in the repositories) WHEN it is started and the "Show number of new items in the tray icon." option is checked. Simply setting the option while it is running is not enough to trigger this. Liferea must be started after this option is set.

Hi,

on latest up-to-date Intrepid, the problem is still there. Notice that I use the tomboy panel-applet, not the notification-area one.

Note how Tomboy is transparent for all solid color options. Surprisingly though, it is transparent for background
image and not system theme - which is the image used in the system theme's panel, but in a different location.

For me Tomboy seems to be working correctly. I used both the "Tactile" theme and the Melancholy-Murrine referenced above and both look good to me.

Can anyone else confirm what I see?

Attached is an image of the Tomboy icon with the Tactile theme on top and Melancholy on bottom.

This is particularly visible with the Dust theme, which you can find here:
