Bug Description

Binary package hint: acroread

The Adobe Reader should be updated to 7.0.5 because 7.0.1 has some security issues.

the package we currently have is not from marillat but from
http://debian-unofficial.org. Currently, I don't see acroread in
pantheras list anymore, I'll try to contact him about that.

in the mean time i'm undecided what to do about this request. dapper is
in really deep freeze mode, and we don't have enough time to test the
new version.

But the original maintainer is and was Christian Marillat. Please have a look at the changelog.

Panthera just rebuilt it for his repository.

I know. perhaps you can prepare a new package based on what we have in
dapper?

I'm not keen on having this pulled in.

Johannes: can you provide a list of the security issues that the latest binary version would fix and an analysis of the serverity of them.

I don't know. I just read it on several websites. But they mostly don't give further information.

The link provided above about some security issue fixed in version 7.0.2 is for the Windows version. There is no Limux version 7.0.2. For Limux there exists only 7.0.1 and 7.0.5.

I did some searches and neither Adobe itself nor the usual lists (cert, secunia, etc.) nor Red Hat or Novell have any security advisories for acroread 7.0.1 (Linux version) listed. The last mentioned advisory (http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/321644.html) for the Linux version is from last year and was fixed with version 7.0.1.

But Adobe seems to keep the changelog for the Linux version 7.0.5 secret, so we have no idea what changed.

If there is anywhere some changelog I am unable to find it. Freshmeat mentiones "Minor feature enhancements", but no indication from where they have that information.

from my personal experience, there are 2 major feature improvements.

1) Printing - Integrated w/ CUPS

2) Accessibility - can export the text of a document. (though this is an annoying feature to use)

Get this into Edgy, then see if it's -updates or -backports material.
