Confirming. This happens to me every time I close Evolution, and does not depend on the amount of time it has been running. I'm using IMAP. I'll get a debug trace ASAP too.

Here's a trace, which might not be useful. After waiting for several minutes for Evolution to quit, or for the Gnome 'kill this app' dialog to appear, I had to kill evolution with 'killall'. When exiting, GDB said that the program is still running.

Could you get a backtrace with the evolution-data-server-dbg package installed?

Ilmari Vacklin (wolverian) wrote :

Evolution-data-server-dbg was installed there, along with: evolution-dbg evolution-data-server-dbg libc6-dbg libglib2.0-0-dbg libgtk2.0-dbg. Did I miss something? Oh - after evolution-data-server-dbg, do I need to restart the running data server process? I'll try that later this evening.

Hello,

I also have this sort of problem. I'm using evolution on Ubuntu Hardy (and I had the same problem with Gutsy). It is configured with 2 imap accounts.

Everything goes well until I try to quit Evolution. Then everything freeze and nothing happens. It is then impossible to exit evolution.

Do I have to open a new bug ? Can anyone tell me how I can give a better diagnostic on what goes bad ?

Thanks.

Add a second to the last comment. Evolution 2.22.3.1 in Hardy (8.04). Hangs at exit everytime.

I'm running Jaunty, and I have one IMAP account setup. Everything was fine for months, then all of the sudden Evolution wouldn't close and would hang on exit. I deleted my account, and re-sync'd with the server and all was well for quite a while... then bam, started happening again.
My only temporary "work around" is to blow away the account, delete all my local files, and re-create the account. This fixes it for a while, and then I have to wash, rinse, and repeat... This is somewhat acceptable for a personal user, but not for a corporate deployment.

comment on the upstream bug:

"This crash report has been submitted against Evolution version 2.10 (or
earlier).
This version is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any
further security or bug fix updates.
The current stable GNOME and Evolution version is 2.26.

Can you please check again whether this issue still happens in Evolution 2.24
or 2.26 and update this report by adding a comment and changing the "Version"
field?
Thanks a lot.

Again thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed
for the version you originally used here.
"

Is somebody still facing this with 2.26.x?

Yup, I'm running 2.26.1 and it happens every day. Is there a log file or something you'd like to see?
My workaround is to simply minimize the window, and shut down at the end of the day... but Evolution never closes on it's own.

Yes, may you please get a backtrace of the hang there? Please read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and attach the resulting log file to the report, thanks in advance.

Just a comment, maybe it is useful. I'm using the latest versions from the repository on both Jaunty and Arch. When I start evolution, it pops me 2 errors and 1 warning all the time:

Error 1:
Error while Opening folder imap://****/INBOX
Cannot write offline journal for folder 'INBOX': No such file or directory

Error2:
Error while Refreshing folder.
Cannot write offline journal for folder 'INBOX': Success

Warning:
Tha last strange thing is the warning. It has no message, and it never disappears.

Sometimes evolution fails to move a mail to a different folder.

I don't know, if these has anything to do with the freezing at exiting, if not, excuse me for the long comment.

As Pedro already stated, we need a backtrace of the crash/hang. Otherwise it will not be possible to get this fixed. Thanks in advance.

Please make sure that the packages evolution-dbg evolution-data-server-dbg libc6-dbg libglib2.0-0-dbg libgtk2.0-dbg are installed, so the backtrace is complete.
