Bug Description

Binary package hint: input-utils

After starting `sudo input-event -g 6` within gnome-terminal under X, and pressing each successive key on my default keyboard (mapped to /dev/input/event6), the system stopped responding, the USB power stopped, and the monitor went into standby mode. The machine was unresponsive to network activity, and no input devices had power, although the internal fans continued to run.

Pressing the power button for a short period (ACPI soft power) had no noticeable effect. A hard powerdown and reboot restored all services normally.

Yes. I can still crash my system with this. Does yours crash when you access your keyboard this way?

Is this bug reproducible in 9.04 or 9.10?

Unfortunately, that keyboard wore out, and I can't reproduce with my laptop :( I'd encourage someone else with a USB keyboard and bundles of "media keys" give it a shot, to confirm the issue is really gone.
