Bug Description

Applications occasionally hang when I try to close them if they have been using the sound card. I can get them to successfully close by either force killing them or doing killall -9 pulseaudio in a terminal. I've seen this hanging with all audio programs: Totem, Banshee, Pidgin, and the game Spring so far.

I need you to reproduce this symptom using the ubuntu-audio-dev PPA and
pulseaudio -vvv

I've attached syslog here, using the pulseaudio dev ppa and having restarted pulseaudio with --kill --start -vvv. The end is where my program hangs and I then killall pulseaudio to get back to my desktop (from a vt)

I haven't confirmed it with the latest update, however this was still live a few days ago. I also get scratchy sound every now and again that cuts out.

Interesting. I notice that I'm not receiving the rtkit-daemon messages
because I've manually granted @audio RT privileges. Does doing so
help?

$ grep @audio /etc/security/limits.conf
@audio - rtprio 99
@audio - nice -19
@audio - memlock unlimited
