[Dapper] Buttons have graphics artifacts with Human theme

Bug Description

On my Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop some buttons have graphics artifacts. This is only when the Human theme is loaded. Mousing over the buttons causes the artifacts to disappear. Only some buttons are effected, one example is the repository selection window in Synaptic, I will attach a screenshot of that. The laptop has an ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 graphics chip and is running the "ati" X driver.

Here's a screenshot of the artifacts on the buttons in the Synaptic repository selection window.

Thanks for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? Does it depend of the theme you use? Could you try with the fglrx driver if you have that issue too? That's likely to be a videodriver issue...

I'm seeing the same aforementioned behavior. Similar hardware:

  - IBM T42
  - ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW
  - [Radeon Mobility 7500]
  - ATI driver (version 6.5.8) for chipsets: ati, ativga

I'm running the latest Drake Beta with all patches/updates applied as of Wed, 10 May 2006 13:50:19 -0600

This is ONLY when using the "Human" theme. Switching to "Clearlooks" or other fixes the problem.

Unfortunately, last I checked, the ATI 7500 is not supported by the fglrx driver. I'll double check this.

I'm also running Dapper Beta2 with all updates. Only the Human theme is affected. The 7500 isn't in the list of devices supported by fglrx and it didn't work for me.

if fglrx doesn't work maybe you could try with vesa?

Yes, vesa works and I do not see the artifacts with the vesa driver.

Thank you for the work on that, reassigning to the ati driver then

I'm seeing this on a T40 with a Radeon 7500, largely in totem. See also bugs #38198 and #44586. It is likely that this was fixed in version 6.5.8.0 of the ati driver: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2006-April/014965.html

I am seeing the same problem. My graphics card is definitly not supported by the fglrx driver. Will the 6.5.8.0 version make it into dapper?
