Bug Description

hey,
there have been some enhancements to gstreamer lately to enable the reading of metadata of icecast internet radio stations.

more can be found here: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=333657

everything has been included in the latest gst updates, besides the little patch in comment #33 of the above bug report.

so, I officially ask someone to just recompile gst-base with that patch to enable all the magic in icydemux. :)

it works just fine with rhythmbox :) you get nice little notifications when the song changes in the stream :)

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'gstreamer'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.

Oh right... I remembered that icydemux was added to -plugins-good after the 0.10.3 release but this was obviously wrong. Thanks for pointing and making me look at it again :)

I only wonder if we have all other required patches to make icecast support working out of the box, I have to look through the changelogs later.

does it work for you though?
because my rhythmbox still doesn't display the tags of iradio stations.

i talked to some of the RB guys, but everything seemed right to them.

gst-launch-0.10 -t playbin uri=RADIOURL

should show the tags, but it doesn't, either.
are you sure the patch got applied correctly?

Yes but it doesn't change anything for me, nothing bad, nothing good. I trusted you that it worked: "it works just fine with rhythmbox :)" and upstream also said that it should be enough *shrug*
anyway, gstreamer core and plugins-base will get a new release this weekend or monday which will have all this.

yep, it's okay. aparently there was something still missing. so, i was wrong and upstream wasn't exactly right either.
i'm sorry about that. we talked about it in IRC, so it's all good and you're right the next stable release will bring us all the goodness.
