Bug Description

Binary package hint: udev

This has happened on both Ubuntu Breezy, Edubuntu Dapper and Ubuntu Dapper.

Steps to repeat:
plug in USB hdd
turn on hdd
kernel spits out text into dmesg
no device node is created

This device is on loan to me for to try and fix this (i am told it came with drivers for windows fwiw).

I will attach the output of dmesg

in this output the device has been turned on and off a few times. If its plugged in and left alone it stil fails to create devices, and echos different text (see next attachment)

This is from an Ubuntu Dapper system (the first log is from Edubuntu Dapper). This was left alone for a few hours to see what it would do.

Is a kernel problem

Pretty sure this is a USB2 problem. Try doing the following command after disconnecting the drive: sudo rmmod ehci_hcd

You should then be able to plug the device back in and have it mounted.

Although this is marked duplicate of bug #41229 , I still have problems. Now on the -15-23 kernel i dont even get output from dmesg when i plug it in.

ehci_hcd is not loaded (according to lsmod), only uhci_hcd
